The PEFC product categories are a key element in the implementation of the PEFC chain of custody by certified organisations and certification bodies. They define the PEFC product groups to which the chain of custody is applied and the scope of the chain of custody certificate.
PEFC Chain of Custody of Forest and Tree Based Products - Requirements
The objective of this standard is to allow organisations to provide accurate and verifiable information that forest and tree based products are sourced from PEFC certified sustainably managed forests, recycled material and PEFC controlled sources.

PEFC Trademark Rules - Requirements
The PEFC trademarks provide information relating to the origin of forest based products in sustainably managed forest and other non-controversial sources. Trademarks information drives purchasers and potential purchasers to choose products based on environmental, as well as other considerations.

PEFC Chain of Custody Standard
(ST 2002:2020 Chain of Custody of Forest and Tree-Based Products - Requirements)
The latest version of the PEFC Chain of Custody Standard, PEFC ST 2002:2020, became mandatory to follow from 14 August 2022. As of this date, all Preferred by Nature audits are conducted against this Standard.
Note: PEFC has published guidance providing important interpretation of the new Standard.
