Two great new achievements within the paper and publishing sector marks the beginning of 2010: China saw the launch of its first FSC-labelled book, and the Sao Paulo newspaper Metro followed in the footsteps of Dutch and Danish daily newspapers by having its daily paper FSC-labeled.
Brazil has seen great progress in consumer awareness of FSC and the need for responsible forestry, and the country has managed to reduce the level of deforestation considerably. A poll conducted last year showed that awareness of the FSC label among the Brazilians had increased from 1% to 20% in just three years.
Sao Paulo city, home of the FSC-labeled newspaper, is known for its targeted efforts to reduce any negative impacts on the precious Amazonian rainforests by implementing strict.... With a print circulation of 150,000, the Metro newspaper certainly help the city in its efforts.
