Project objective
The objective of this project was to increase the capacity for information dissemination of the Estonian Fund for Nature (ELF), including the capacity to act as a focal point for NGOs using the Aarhus Convention in their work.
The Aarhus Convention calls for public access to environmental information and public involvement in environmental decision-making processes.
The project also aimed to establish a network of NGOs in Estonia and surrounding countries in order to prepare the NGO environment of Eastern Europe for inclusion into the EU, including raising their awareness of the Aarhus Convention.
Project approach
The project provided assistance for developing and implementing awareness raising campaigns amongst the Estonian public, informing about the implications of the Aarhus Convention and the value of public access to environmental information. The project also assisted in the organisational development of ELF and on the development of eco-tourism activities.
