Carlo is a member of the Forestry department within Preferred by Nature and works as an Supply Chain Specialist. He conducts FSC® and PEFC Chain of Custody audits, advises companies to comply with the EUTR/ EUDR and expands activities in the Netherlands through marketing of Preferred by Nature’s certification and support services.
As a child I was a member of the youth nature watch, particularly fascinated by trees and the beautiful wood they produce. I started traveling in my teens and became fascinated by cultures and their way of life. To combine these two fascinations, I started working in the wood trade and travelled all over the world. Witnessing the profound impact of sustainable forest management has made me realize that we play a crucial role in the cycle associated with trees and their important role in life on this planet.
I’m convinced valuing certified forest products offers the ultimate opportunity to continuously protect the forest, biodiversity and climate. Being part of the chain by ensuring that the supply chain is fully legal, deforestation-free and traceable is my contribution to passing on a sustainable future to the next generation.
Guarding this circle of life with like-minded colleagues from all over the world motivates me to achieve my inner purpose.
Carlo has an extensive background in the global timber trade and is familiar with the many facets of the complexities associated with supplying sustainable, legal and traceable timber.
As a former environmental, certification and procurement manager, he was responsible for tropical timber sourcing, managing multi-site FSC® and PEFC compliance and the EUTR due diligence system. In addition, he carried out supplier accreditations, internal, forest and factory audits, and supervised CE marking, life cycle assessments, product declarations incl. application guidelines, quality inspections and the provision of FSC® and PEFC logo approvals
Within Preferred by Nature, Carlo supports companies in the fields of corporate social responsibility, sustainable certification and regulations to ensure that products come from deforestation-free, respectful and legal sources.
