María José's time in Preferred by Nature is distributed between Forestry and Agriculture. In Forestry, she mainly undertakes Forest Management audits and in Agriculture, she conduct audits and provide technical assistance to agriculture projects in Spain.
I have always aimed at contributing to a sustainable management of natural resources. Joining Preferred by Nature is a natural step towards this goal, since I feel this organisation will support my vocation with a wide and global scope and being part of a diverse and highly skilled team.
María José is a forest engineer, with over 20 years of professional experience. She is an expert in European projects dealing with resources efficiency, climate change mitigation and adaptation, including forestry and agriculture, ecosystems restoration and climate governance and information
For more than seven years, María José collaborated with the Spanish River Basin Authorities on projects related to forestry and river restoration. During this time, she also worked with national and regional forestry authorities in Spain to define best practices, develop forest management plans, and implement restoration projects on agricultural land.
María José's expertise in sustainable forestry practices led her to support a large retail group in Europe and Russia for three years. In this role, she worked to ensure that the company's timber supply chain was sustainable and responsible.
